The 24th Annual College Connection is a not-for-profit effort of the Edison Preparatory School PTSA. Our mission is to enable Northeastern Oklahoma's youth and their parents to make the best possible choice for their individual needs in seeking affordable, high-quality post-secondary educational opportunities. Our fair features representatives of over 150 selected colleges, universities and selected financial and educational services from across the nation.
College Connection 2010 is certain to be bigger and better than ever. Admission is free to attending students and families. Everyone interested is welcome to attend! This is an outstanding no-cost opportunity you to learn about all aspects of colleges and universities. Participating colleges will be presented by admissions officers, counselors, well-versed alumni, and/or others qualified to respond to students' and parents' questions. Free literature will be available at virtually every college's display. College Connection strives to be a resource of information to help you decide which school is the best fit for you. You and your family have the chance to talk to admissions officers and get the scoop on everything, from the course offerings to life on campus.
Before attending any college fair it will help to consider what you want from a college. Write down college characteristics that are important to you. Collegeboard.com has a College Search link to help find colleges that best suit your interests. Obtain catalogs and information about schools that af interest through your high school counseling or visit college websites. Write down questions that aren't answered in your research. Consider your own interests, such as activities you'd like to pursue and course requirements for the majors in which you're interested. Bring a pen and small notebook and your list of questions with you.
TIMESAVER TIP! Consider printing out self-stick labels with your address, contact information, and graduation date to stick on college information cards at the fair. A complimentary bag is provided at the door to hold all the college brochures and information you'll collect. College Connection offers many booths to visit and people to talk to. First focus your visits to the schools that really interest you, then take the time to browse through some of the booths you didn't get to—you might stumble on a great college you hadn't considered! It is also a good idea to take a few minutes to jot a few reference notes after you visit each booth. Afterwards you'll probably come home with a bag full of information. Look through the materials and your notes within the week to weed out colleges that aren't a good fit. Research colleges that interest you by exploring school websites, contact school admissions with questions and to plan campus visits. Consult your High School Counseling office to inquire about college representatives scheduled to visit to your high school. We wish you all the best in your college pursuits! See you in September!
